The birthday…

On the day of my birthday at Edgefield, we went down to the pool at Ruby’s spa for a swim.

When we were there, John told the receptionist that I had an appointment in the afternoon. (He told me that earlier, but didn’t tell me what he scheduled).  When I visited the spa – which is [...]

Arriving at Edgefield

After we left the zoo in Portland, we drove to our surprise destination.  Ruby fell asleep about 2 minutes after we left the zoo, and it only took 30 minutes to get to Edgefield, so John and I enjoyed a really nice drive on a scenic highway through the gorge, lined with fall trees.
We arrived [...]

our trip, part 1

The first part of our trip was for the whole family.  We took Ruby to the zoo for the first time. It was incredible to see her checking out the animals and connecting them to books we have read.  We had gorgeous weather and the Portland zoo is beautiful.  We were surrounded by conifer trees [...]

home again

We’re back home and I’m digging my way through mail, email, photos, suitcases….so there will be more later.  John took us to Edgefield just east of Portland for a very relaxing vacation.  We all had so much fun and relaxed.

yum

Remember the ChocolateChocolate book I told you about?  I made chocolate chip shortbread with caramel topping this weekend.  It is unbelieveable.  John and I have been calling up every bit of strength we have not to gobble it all up. I posted it on the cooling rack site.

John took the week off this week and [...]

working at home

People often say to John & I are that we are so lucky to be able to make it work on one income.  We are.  We know we are.  John’s job offers great benefits and we live in a place with a moderate cost of living, so we can do this, even on his modest [...]

randomness for you

If you live in the northwest, you should check out this link for help choosing native plants for your landscape.  I wish our budget matched our gardening dreams…

full moon (this has nothing to do with the moon)

We picked up our CSA box today and were pleasantly surprised to find raspberries! We ate them tonight on top of our pop-up pancakes.
We also got:
red leaf lettuce
cucumber
spinach
sungold cherry tomatoes – these are like candy
red kale
tomatoes
banana squash
pimento peppers
liberty apples
Any ideas for the pimento peppers?
I’ll leave you with this:
It may be when we no longer know [...]

pumpkin patch

Our family is back together again!  We’re having gorgeous fall days right now.  Its cool, but sunny.  We’re soaking it all up before the rains set in.  We visited a pumpkin patch yesterday at Heavenly Harvest.  Ruby was a little more into it than she was last year.  Here she is playing in a box [...]
